GOLD! GOLD!

Union Hill has produced
7 ozs. 4 1/2 dwts. of gold, worth around $3000 for local miners, the Lakey Brothers in their first crushing.

The yeild was from 18 tonn. of ore crushed at the local Battery which is operated by Mr. Jack Cocks.

The Lakeys - Charlie, Laurie, Walter & Gordon have been working what is considered the family site since before Christmas, after winning back the site following the Lone Star debacle.

They inherited the mine from their father Bill - who successfully worked it for

many years - and sold it to the Broken Hill based Lone Star Company whiched failed before getting into production.

The mine is being worked as an open cut, but the going has not been easy with stiff restrictions on their operations, including limiting the depth of mining and removal of ore together with an Exploration Licensee also in the picture.

Charlie pays tribute to Dr. Doug Kemsley and the Prospectors' and Miners' Association without whose assistance they would not have got the mine back nor got into production.
